Do we perceive the world as it really is, or are we operating under a variety of illusions. Whether trying to avoid being taken in by simple optical illusions or exposing ideological trickery that distorts our view of reality, humans are wary of their own ability to access reality. Neuroscientific discoveries related to brain function (and in particular, its relationship to fiction) have come back to stoke the fire. But must we throw out the baby (our access to reality) with the bath water (the difficulties inherent in this hypothetical access) and give up trying to access to reality? Five researchers in very different fields will respond to this question.
