Jean-Pierre Haigneré (France) works as an air pilot and in 1986 is selected to be one of the seven astronauts chosen to participate in two scientific projects, “Altair” and “Persée,” onboard the Mir space station. He is a founding member and current President of the Astronaute Club européen, a non-profit that strives to promote public participation in all activities related to space exploration.
