Daniel Defert (France), sociologist and philosopher, has co-edited Dits et écrits, a series of comprehensive anthologies of Michel Foucault whose life and struggles he shared. Specializing in medical and health sociology, he is an eminent anti-Aids activist. He is the founder and president of the first French Aids prevention association called Aides, which he managed until 1991.
