After telling the story of a butcher in love with a cow in Comme une bête (Gallimard, 2012), she recently published La Peau de l’ours. In this novel, written like a fairytale, the reader follows the trials and tribulations of a being that is half man, half bear. Reminding us of the movie Freaks, the author invites us to think about why we are attracted to or repulsed by monstrous beings—about what we have in common with them and how we are different—and draws a dotted line between bestiality and humanity.
