Georges Didi-Huberman dialogue with Jean Birnbaum
“Georges Didi-Huberman is the author of works performed on a montage mode, always on the side of formal experimentation. These works are interspersed with many essays, which are as many attempts to subvert disciplinary boundaries. At the intersection of aesthetics and politics, the philosopher sheds light on the power of images and language. Throughout his writing, a scene from a film echoes a scene from childhood, a master painting converses with pop culture. A figure both discreet and essential in the philosophical landscape, this theorician never treads on beaten paths so as to invent his very own way of displacing one’s vision, of reanimating writing. His work converges towards both philosophy and literature. The dialogue will be an opportunity to evoke these stakes, ever present, never truly explicited. We will see that the engaging directly with literature is crucial to understand not only what Didi-Huberman calls the phrasing of his vision, but also his commitment to defend a certain responsibility towards words and images, a politics of memory and emancipation.”
