We are sometimes made to feel fully alive by a particular emotion, a memory, a thought, or the unmoving grandeur of a landscape. All of a sudden, life surges forth in its rawest, most beautiful form. How can literature make readers feel the physical sensation of being in the world, of life in a pure form, as fleeting as it is powerful? Between materialism and metaphysics, how do writers translate this sudden appearance that invades us? How can one describe the physical and psychic happiness of being here, in the here and now?
