When we think of the musical experience, we tend to say that words cannot convey it. Yet literature has always been attuned to music, perhaps because music challenges it to find an appropriate language form in which the music can be conveyed. How can we capture the formal beauty and the sensory fullness of the musical experience ? What do we lose, and what do we gain, when we try to put it into words ?
More broadly, what is the place of music in life ? How intense an experience is it for its creator, for its interpreter, or for those who just listen to it ?
