As landscapes go by, thoughts wander, the life of the mind awakens, and perception sharpens. Ever since Rousseau published his Rêveries du promeneur solitaire, many philosophers and writers have felt that the rhythm of walking, of promenading, fosters reflection and even creativity. A whole new world opens up and feeds the imagination. How do these wandering writers make this new tempo of perception perceptible, how do they awaken readers to another reality of their environment and themselves? Do these perceptions of the world make it possible, in the end, to achieve an inward state with that much more acuity?
