Whether it takes the form of a sudden break-up or of a more insidious separation, the end of a relationship is always lived as a major event, because it means giving up part of one’s history, part of oneself. Whether it is another form of grief or the beginning of a new life, novelists try to understand how separation affects our identity and its long term consequences.
To what extent does a separation modify one’s life story ? Can we truly talk about "getting over it" ? Or should we sometimes see it as something positive ? And can this experience be the same for men and for women ?
