Born in 1958, Étienne Klein earned a degree in engineering from the Ecole Centrale in Paris, a Masters in theoretical physics, and a Ph.D. in the philosophy of science. He has taken part in various grand projects, in particular the study for an accelerator with supraconducting cavities, the design of the CERN’s future giant European collider, the LHC, and the development of a procedure for isotopic separation by laser. He currently directs the Laboratory for Research on the Science of Matter at the CEA (LARSIM).
Klein is a professor of physics and the philosophy of science at the Ecole Centrale in Paris. He is also a member of the scientific councils of the Cité des Sciences and the Parliamentary Office for the Evaluation of Scientific and Technical Choices.
