Philippe Forest has a degree from the Institut Politiques of Paris (1983) and a doctorate in literature (1991). He lived in the United Kingdom for seven years, teaching French literature in various universities (Edinborough, Saint-Andrews, Cambridge, London). Since 1995 he has taught at the University of Nantes, where he is now a professor of French literature. He divides his time between Nantes and Paris. His first novel, L’Enfant éternel, was published by Éditions Gallimard in 1997 and won the Prix Femina for first novels. It was followed by Toute la nuit (1999), the Italian translation of which won the Grinzane Cavour Award (best foreign novels) in 1997, and Sarinagara (2004), which one the Décembre award. Philippe Forest contributes frequently to Artpress and other reviews. His articles deal mostly with the writers of the review Tel Quel, Louis Aragon (he helped edit the Œuvres romanesques et poétiques in La Pléiade), and Japanese literature (mainly Kenzaburô Oé).
