A novelist and essayist, Boubacar Boris Diop was born in Dakar in 1946. After advanced studies in philosophy, literature and journalism in Senegal, he worked for several Senegalese newspapers and still works for the foreign press.
He has also taught as a visiting professor in various universities in Africa, the United States, Lebanon, Canada and Europe, and runs numerous writing workshops in Senegal, Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso. In 1998, the authors’ residence “Rwanda: écrire par devoir de mémoire” enabled him to take full measure of the genocide of the Tutsis. The result was Murambi, le livre des ossements, which has been translated into several languages.
