After studies in Literature, Marie Desplechin became a freelance journalist before she began devoting herself almost exclusively to her dream : writing novels and short stories for adults and children. Geneviève Brisac noticed her and encouraged her to start writing full time. After Le Sac à dos d’Alphonse and Rude samedi pour Angèle, Desplechin published a very well-received short-story collection, Trop sensibles, in 1995. Her first novel for adults, Sans moi¸ was highly successful. She deals with various subjects in her books with humor : father-daughter relations in Verte, imaginary worlds in Dragons (2003), and the education of a young girl in the 19th century in Satin grenadine. Desplechin has also contributed to anthologies – Naissances, 100 jours sans, Penser/Rêver… - and continues to contribute to innovative projects – Beaucoup plus que de l’amour – and publications by the new publisher, l’Estaure. She is also a member of the sponsoring committee of the French coalition for the International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence, and since 2006 has frequently published articles in l’Express.
