Frédéric Boyer was born in1961 in Cannes. He is a former student of the Ecole normale supérieure, and has authored around thirty books (novels, essays, poetry, and translations), all published by the Éditions P.O.L. He received the Inter Book Prize in 1993 for his novel Des choses idiotes et douces, and the Jules Janin Prize from the French Academy for his new translation of Augustine’s Confessions; he has also led the project of the New Translation of the Bible with many contemporary writers (Olivier Cadiot, Jean Echenoz, Florence Delay, Jacques Roubaud, Valère Novarina...), published in 2001 (Bayard). In 2010, his new translation of Shakespeare’s Richard II (P.O.L, 2010) is staged by Jean-Baptiste Sastre, with Denis Podalydès, in the Cour d'honneur of the Palais des papes during the Avignon festival, where he debuted himself as an actor. In 2012, he staged his first play at the Lorient Theater and the Centre dramatique de Châteauvallon: Phèdre les oiseaux (P.O.L, 2012), with the actress Hiam Abbass.
