BiographY
Born in Paris in 1949, Jean-Christophe Bailly is a French writer, poet, and dramaturge. He decided very early to be a writer, and his book Tuiles détachées explains this decision and several phases that were important for developing his style. Close to Surrealism when he began writing, he has since distanced himself from it. His thinking is the modern continuation of certain ideas of German romanticism: the idea of a meaning without borders but with a shape that changes, in the spirit of what Novalis calls the Encyclopedia. He founded and has directed the reviews Fin de siècle and Aléa, and has also directed the collection “Détroits” for Christian Bourgois. He has a doctorate in philosophy and teaches at the École nationale supérieure de la nature et du paysage [School for advanced studies of nature and landscape] of Blois, where he has directed the publication Les Cahiers de l’École de Blois since 2003. Also interested in contemporary art, he has published numerous articles, prefaces and studies on painters and photographers.
