Biography

Bree Benton is a singer, performance artist, and archivist specializing in material from the early days of American vaudeville (1870s-1920s); she has been performing as "Poor Baby Bree" since 2005.  Her one-woman shows have included Weary River (Don’t Tell Mama); Ragtime, Ragmen, and Ragamuffins: Historic Songs of the Lower East Side (Bowery Poetry Club); and I Am Going to Run Away (La MaMa, Dixon Place).  Other appearances include Laurie and Friends (BAM, curated by Laurie Anderson), A Tribute to Harrigan and Hart (Symphony Space, curated by Mick Moloney), the Our Hit Parade series at Joe’s Pub, and benefits for the Bowery Alliance of Neighbors and God’s Love We Deliver.  She lives in Jackson Heights, Queens with her partner Franklin Bruno.
