Santiago Amigorena was born in Argentina in 1962, growing up in Buenos Aires then Uruguay before moving to France in 1973. He began his career by writing screen plays for the new generation of French filmmakers in the 1990s (like Cédric Klapisch and Laurence Ferreira Barbosa). In 1998 when his first novel, Une enfance laconique (P.O.L), was published, he undertook a vast autobiographical and novelistic project inspired by Proust’s work. In the six volumes that have appeared so far, he recounts the feelings of exclusion of the child who does not speak, exile and life in France, being introduced to French, discovering the world and others, and the excitement and pain of his first love.
